welcome

Hi, we're Modern Vintage. We love weddings, we love love & we love to sing while we set up. Our favorite part of the day is watching you, as a new couple, walk back down the aisle after the ceremony. That feeling of elation & pure joy is why we do what we do.

Budget 101: Where Should I Spend My Money?

When it comes to the wedding, we know you don’t have unlimited funds so it is important to ask yourself what the most important aspects of the wedding day are to you. This could be a meaningful ceremony, an amazing band, great photos, gorgeous flowers or incredible food (among many other things). These elements are the places you should allocate your money first.

Make a List…

Yeah, we’re list people.  Make a list of the vendors and wedding elements you need and then put them in order or importance to you. The ones that show up at the top are the ones you should invest more in.  We recommend this so that you don’t spend $1500 on an elaborate cake, leaving you with little money for that band, when cake isn’t really your thing. (But if cake is your thing we know some people who can blow that elaborate cake thing out of the water.) Take this list and put it into a budget (see more on budgeting here and here) so you know what numbers you are working with for your top three. Don’t ever be afraid to share these numbers with vendors so that they know what you are working with.

Crap, I Spent all my Money…

You don’t want to spend the bulk of your money on things that aren’t important to you and then be left without money for the things that truly are.  We actually recommend making that list before you have even booked your venue. This could help you determine whether that amazing, but expensive, venue with the gorgeous view is in your top three of whether you should keep looking if it didn’t make the cut.

Knowing where to allocate funds (and how much to allocate) can be a challenge since most likely this is your fist go round at a wedding.  If you plan to spend money in the places that are truly valuable it will help you know when to say no (those giant tulle bows from Aunt Mildred). You won’t regret it.

Picking your top three is important regardless of the size of your budget. Even the largest budgets have their limits and you want to make sure your money is going to the things that matter the most.

You can see more of this is our latest installment of Planning + Prosecco here.
