Last week, we decided to #giveLOVE by volunteering to deliver holiday food boxes for NeedLink. Ever hear of these guys? They work tirelessly to provide rent and utility assistance to families in the Nashville area throughout the year so that lights can be kept on, heat can be used and families might be able to stay in their home a little longer. At this time of year, the organization also provides boxes of food to families to help restock the pantry at the holidays. And we’re talking some 40-50lb boxes. These are full to the brim with peanut butter, rice, noodles, potatoes, vegetables, milk and more.
We met out at the fairgrounds, where a huge team of tireless volunteers were busy packing these huge boxes with stacks and stacks of food. We signed up to be delivery drivers who go in groups of two. We were given a route with directions and boxes were loaded into my car, along with the largest heads of cabbage I have ever seen. And we were off.
Then we drove around Nashville delivering food to families. Which was AWESOME. The boxes were so loaded down with the food, it was actually kind of hard to get them out of the car and to the front doors. Don’t hate, we are actually really strong, I promise. When we returned from our shift earlier then expected, we asked if we needed to take another route and there were so many volunteers signed up, that they had already lined up a delivery driver for EVERYTHING. That is amazing and I am so glad we got to be a part of it.
How will you give love this holiday season? Share! #giveLOVE
