That’s right, folks! We at Modern Vintage are teaming up with Hana from BeChic Accessories for our very first blog giveaway. Hana owns BeChic Accessories on Etsy, where she sells her beautiful handmade creations. Her site features facinators, birdcage veils, bridal headpieces and garters, as well as traditional pillbox hats. The romantic quality of her craftsmanship is definitely swoon-worthy. And how did she learn to create such beautiful pieces? From none other than the royal milliner to the late Queen Mum in London. Hana uses traditional millinery techniques on her work, no sewing machine – which is why we think they are so beautifully unique.
Here are a few words from Hana about her design and experience:From an early age my mother and both grandmothers encouraged and taught me to draw, knit, sew, crochet and also embroider when I was little. After earning my psychology degree and settling my career in Human Resources, I realized I was still missing something. So I started to create again and slowly moved to millinery as its techniques range from shaping, sewing to embellishing and trimming, the possibilities are endless. I have chosen a great teacher – Rose Cory, royal milliner to late Queen Mum, also called the “milliners’ milliner”. She taught me couture millinery techniques with attention to the elaborate details. Every flower and every leaf is handmade by me, using traditional millinery technique and my own patterns. I also make my own hat blocks for blocking cocktail hats, which make my designs really unique. Premium quality fabrics, pure silks, feathers and millinery material come from shops in London, where I like to travel. Much of my inspiration is from these materials and also from my customers when working on bespoke hats. My biggest motivations for my work are lovely pictures of happy brides wearing my accessories.
We have joined forces with Hana to reward one lucky reader with a $150 gift card to Hana’s shop. I am already jealous of the bride who gets to sport one of these lovely and totally unique designs on her wedding day. Hana also takes custom orders and could work with the winner to create something totally new.
