Five weeks ago, my life changed forever. On April 26, the Modern Vintage family expanded when I became the mother of the sweetest baby girl. Ruby Amelia was born at 2:36 pm at 8 pounds, 21 inches. Everyone tells you a new baby will rock your world, but I honestly didn’t know the half of it until I saw that precious face for the first time.

Being a planner, I of course started planning out Ruby’s nursery pretty much the minute I found out she was on the way. I had a blast picking out colors and designs and adding some sweet DIY touches. My hubs and I made the chevron bench seats ourselves from foam pads and plywood covered in fabric and they came out amazingly well. We found the old mirror in a junk store and spray painted it gold. The pillow shams I made using this tutorial, which was surprisingly easy (coming from someone who has owned a sewing machine for 10 years but is only just now learning to use it). We had the 1920’s dresser painted a soft peach and I love how it turned out. For the walls, I had to go with mint because it is currently one of my favorite colors and I think is so calm and soothing. Then I paired some bold geometric patterns with some fun woodland touches. I love the result that we got, soft and feminine but not over the top girly and something that Ruby can grow into.
