A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.
Strength and hopefulness feel exactly like what we need in 2021. 2020 has been a year of enduring. Of continuing to move forward despite hard circumstances and loss. A year of looking for love and wins. This marriage of color is definitely one we can get behind.
Illuminating
It is no surprise that we love yellow around here. Mustard is where our heart is but every shade makes us happy, including this bright, fun color. Yellow is such a great color to incorporate into a design. It works really well as a cheery dominant color or one incorporated into a color palette. It can feel like spring or fall or anything in between. (I mean, we can get down with winter yellow.)
Here are some ways you can incorporate illuminating yellow into your wedding design in 2021.
Mustard Draping
Two words. Mustard.Draping. It exists and it is magical. While this may not be as vibrant as illuminating yellow, it is just as jaw-dropping.
Now that you have had time to bask in all its glory we can tell you why we love it. Mustard is the perfect mix between bright and cheery and your favorite 70s couch. It can be modern and minimal or mid-century and quirky.
For this wedding we had a “tent” inside a warehouse built from custom crushed velvet mustard draping. The draping was a huge statement piece that really made an impact on the couple and their guests.
Hello Yellow: Statement Backdrop
You know we couldn’t resist the rhyme. A vibrant yellow background paired with a {faux} concrete table is the perfect marriage between the vibrant, hopeful yellow and the grounding, neutral gray. If you don’t have access to a concrete style table, gray napkins or plates could work to get a similar vibe.
This could be a really cool focal point at your wedding or serve as a photobooth backdrop. We love it paired with the whimsical and delicate white florals. (P.S. This backdrop is made from fabric + wood planks so you could DEFINITELY DIY this!)
Florals
Flowers are such a beautiful way to bring in vibrant yellows. They can be a splash of color in a bouquet or be mixed with other shades.
Nature gives us a lot to work with in the yellow department. Yellow flowers come in all shapes, sizes and textures. We love them as a burst of color or paired with peach and orange flowers.
Adding fruit is one of our favorite ways to style a table! The lemons really bring out the yellow in the flowers and add an interesting element. (the oranges + kiwis do the same thing here!) Citrus also repels bugs at an outdoor wedding!
Balloons + Other Decor
Yellow is one of those colors that just makes you happy no matter what form it comes in. Balloons are another one of those things that just make people smile. Put them together and you have décor joy!
They work really well with a lot of colors but yellow + silver (that is in the gray family right?) could be a winning combination!
Ultimate Gray
We have been saying this for a bit but gray is the new black. I mean we still love black but gray is one of our favorite neutrals. It pairs really well with pretty much any color palette. (We even have a video about it here.)
Linens
This is definitely not something new but something we never stop loving. A gray textured linen looks great in so many spaces and really makes a floral arrangement or centerpiece pop. (Especially when it involves yellow flowers.)
We will also never be sad when the centerpiece is actually a charcuterie board.
Shade of gray and varying textures can really add dimension and interest to a minimalist tablescape as well. Include smoke colored glassware and you have the gray trifecta.
We love textures like concrete or linen with gray because it bring a bit more depth to the color. (We pretty much love texture no matter what but it goes a very long with with neutrals.)
We are pretty excited about the colors for 2021 and all the celebrations the year will bring.
